Oiltec Solutions has delivered advanced topside drilling simulators for the last two decades. In partnership with SINTEF and eDrilling, we now can offer the first “From the Derrick to the Drill bit” drilling simulator system to our clients. The hiDRILL wellSIM simulator (formerly known as Intellectus hiDRILL) is intensively used by Statoil and other leading oil and gas companies in the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico.

It is an innovative drilling simulator combining a dynamic downhole and topside models, with full visualization in real time, which reacts to the crew inputs the same way they would experience on the rig. It is a safe environment to provide realistic and under stress training, according to client specific procedures and well data, generic or rig specific topside and team behaviour. It can also be used to test procedures and third party systems. hiDRILL wellSIM belongs to our hiDRILL simulator brands and remains the best and most realistic system available today.

Team training on the actual well 

The dynamic hiDRILL wellSIM simulator offers safer and more cost-effective drilling through simulator training on the actual well to be drilled. The simulator combines 3D visualization and advanced training of the downhole drilling process with a generic or rig specific topside model.

Dynamic downhole model

The downhole model includes various modules taking into consideration effects such as hydraulics, torque and drag, oil or water based mud, inertia, acceleration and retardation, temperature and pressure, pore pressure, wellbore stability, Rate Of Penetration (ROP) and a number of other important inputs that all together result in a realistic and dynamic environment for the user.

Topside model elements

The topside model emulates the drill floor of an offshore or land drilling rig along with the typical topside equipment. The Drilling Control & Data Acquisition (DCDA) system is also replicated. The operators have Driller and Assistant Driller chairs. Both have touch screens for advanced Human Machine Interface (HMI), as well as remote BOP and choke panels according to regulations. Any theatre solutions, from LCD panels to a large dome, is configurable through the render system.
